The Lady Tasting Tea by David Salsburg

This is the book that I am currently reading. It's a fascinating history of modern statistics and the use of modern statistics in scientific research. If you are interested in that sort of thing, give it a read.

It begins with the story of a woman who claimed that she could taste the difference between cream being added before the tea was poured and after the tea was poured. Several economists were at the party at which this happened and they developed a series of tests to determine whether she could, in fact, taste the difference. Like I said, I find this book very interesting. And further, I don't think one needs a thorough study to determine that tea is much better when the cream is poured in advance of the tea.
