Why Al Gore?

Why are liberal activists longing for Al Gore? Didn't they not particularly care for him seven years ago? Don't we have two dynamic candidates in Edwards and Obama? I think Gore is great and he'd probably make a fine president, but all he's proven in terms of presidential politics is that he can run a pretty shitty campaign and hire a horrible staff. Edwards is my candidate and I'm excited about him, but I could vote for most of the Democrats currently running, Biden and Gravel being the two certain exceptions.
