Crazy ass weather

I'm glad I don't like in Wisconsin anymore. They seem to have weekly tornado watches in the summer and spring. I'm not thrilled with my Central Texas heat, but I prefer it to frequent tornadoes.

Old Good Times

At 2.30 this afternoon, I got a phone call from Mark asking me to eat breakfast with him at the Omelettry. I show up and Mark, Word, Joey and Ryan, are all there waiting for me. It was really good to sit around with four guys who I really like and with whom I hadn't really hung out with in a couple years. Sadly, it was a going away breakfast for Mark who heads off to a Master's Program at NYU in the morrow. It was good seeing friends, particularly friends around my own age.

Clean this shit up

All you people who think that you are simply expressing yourself artistically when you tag buildings need to think again. Purposefully damaging the property of others costs everybody in this city. Either the city or the property owner has spend time and money cleaning up your shit. That time and money, combined with the time and money put in by the vandal, is the opportunity cost of vandalism. That is time and money that could be used to do something productive for society, but because it is used for a destructive purpose, net social welfare is decreased by you assholes. There are certainly property owners who have no problem with allowing people to tag their property. Feel free to decorate that property. Otherwise, tagging is a selfish pasttime. Respect the rest of the people in your city.

Comings and Goings

Underground is in Houston. Mark is about to go to New York. I just got back to Austin. Ryan just got back from Japan. Ryan is about to go to California. It's hard for me to keep track of where everybody is with this sudden burst of action.

We found a house in which we are very interested today. I don't think that assets combined with a masters degree will be enough to get us a loan, unfortunately. Maybe it'll stay on the market for a little while and we can get decent jobs so that a loan won't be entirely out of the question.

It's incredibly hot in Austin. It got up to 104 today and it's supposed to be 105 tomorrow.

We ate barbecue with Ryan today. That was fun. The owners of Ruby's are really great. Because they catered our wedding, they make a point of talking with us for a while every time we go in there. It's nice.

Tell the LBB to hire me if you know anybody in a position to hire me at the LBB.

The Rentals Returned

I'm now home from watching the Rentals perform. The first few songs were pretty good, nice and upbeat. The middle was boring. The end of the regular set was nearly perfect. The last three songs were Keep Trying, I Just Threw Out the Love of my Dreams, and Waiting. Friends of P, introduced with Walk on the Wild Side, was the encore. In all honestly, the show could have been completely horrible all around, but seeing Rachel Haden sing love of my dreams made it worth the cover. The biggest problem with the show is that it was on the outside stage at Emo's. For those who are unaware, this means that you get all of the summer night heat, but none of the summer night breeze. I'm clearly getting old because I had to step into the fully open air portion of the club. The excitement of the night came during the encore when some guy walked past me and another guy yelled 'get out of here' to the first guy. The first guy kept walking so the second guy, an Emo's employee, grabbed the first guy's throat and tried to subdue him. That wasn't working, so a second guy jumped in to escort the guy, or rather to wrestle the guy/choke the guy/generally beat the guy who was flailing all the while. Again, this was maybe two feet away from me and I was the closest non-combatant to the action. The guy on the receiving end of the beating's friends eventually arrived and broke everything up and the skirmish ended with the guy getting escorted towards the door by his friends while he flipped off and cussed out the much larger bouncer-types who had previously been choking him and holding him on the floor. Beautiful.

I finally get a job and then I get laid off

So what if the job was jury duty and by laid off I mean that I no longer need to report next Wednesday. It was something to do and now it's gone. There's another LBB job for which I am going to apply, but that doesn't close until mid-September. It doesn't pay much and I'm imminently qualified. Good luck to me.

I'm going to go see the Rentals and Ozma tonight. It'll be a stroll through 10 years ago.
