Finally

Texas finally managed to beat Texas A&M in double overtime tonight. It was a really entertaining game. Damion James had a great game despite two bad plays at the end that could have cost Texas the game. Durant was outstanding as usual. This is a big win for the young team.

I still got it

I can procrastinate just as well now as I could in graduate school. Seriously, did you notice the videos. I have an interview, writing sample, and Excel test, in the morning. I need to be somewhat prepared for that stuff.

Ash - Burn Baby Burn

The Cheese / Les Aus - Scooby Dude

Videos. Hooray!

I decided that I'd like to add the occassional video to this blog. I added two today, although neither of them were the video that I had intended to post. That's life, I suppose.

New Music

Peter Bjorn and John is really good. We got "Falling Out" which is really good. I think that they have a newer album. If so, I'm looking forward to getting it. Underground in particular would really like this album.

Okay

Apparently Blogger doesn't like Erin and won't let her comment on my blog. I think that sounds petty. Grow up, Blogger.

I'm interviewing with the Legislative Budget Board this week. Finally. I think I applied for the same or similar positions three or four times. I moved and they reposted the job. Either way, it's an interview.

My family thinks sending me to College Station is funny. Yeah, really funny. It'll be fine. Aggies love my tea sip elitism.

Somebody got an Accord. Yay Accord.

The Intel building is gone. The city may have given away the land and then been forced to buy back the unfinished building when Intel decided not to move here, but I'm sure glad that they destroyed it.

New Music Help

Any readers who want to suggest some new music for me to listen to should comment on this post with your suggestions. I've been listening to Maximo Park, the Pipettes, Deerhoof, and Broadcast lately, along with the usual favorites. Recommend away.

The Aggies love my people

http://www2.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gifThe article that starts on page 33 of Texas A&M Agricultural Newsletter is about a charitable gift made to Texas A&M in honor of my grandfather, Tyrus Timm. What are they going to do next, name a street after him?

I am number one

This blog is the number one hit for the google search of "bowling without socks".

I rule.

A very Bob LaBlog Blog

This blog is generally a fairly random collection of short posts about whatever it is that I happen to be thinking of, typically football or policy or perhaps even unemployment. I think that fits.

Mrs. LaBlog is encouraging me to apply for a job with the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities in the beautiful and always charming District of Columbia.

The job interviews went strangely. I couldn't remember what regression models I used two years ago and that's all they wanted to talk about at one place. The job would be research as opposed to policy based. I'm not sure that I would enjoy that. It seems like a step towards academia. The other interview was strange. I was a liberal in a conservative Republicans office. The people were nice and they seem to like my policy interests. But honestly, what legislator doesn't want to hire a public finance policy person, particularly a legislator on the Economic Development Committee. What the hell is economic development anyway?

Is 28 Days Later just a bizarro version of Brain Candy?

I got a new watch.

It looks like an old clock radio.

Quoi?

I've got two job interviews tomorrow. One of them is for a position as a research analyst with the Texas Center for Educational Research, the other is for a position as a policy analyst for a member of the Texas House of Representatives. One position would have me doing research at an independent policy organization and the other would have me analyzing legislation for a Republican representative. I'm hoping for one more than the other.

AARP and the Buzzcocks

Why is there an AARP ad that features the music of the Buzzcocks? Are retirees listening to late 1970's punk rock now?

My baby clock?

Mrs. LaBlog is convinced that my baby clock is ticking because I spent Sunday night and Monday morning with the Undergrounds and I came home talking about playing Baby Underground. It's not a secret that I love the little ones. I think kids and babies are wonderful. That said, I am an unemployed policy analyst who lives in a cheap one bedroom apartment and who is married to a 25 year old bookseller. We will have kids at some point and it will be very fulfilling, but it's still a couple years away.

Hi Mom!

I'm convinced that my mom has discovered my blog. Either that, or some other person in Fayetteville, AR, who uses Netscape on a Mac has found my blog. If my mom has, in fact, found this, then here is a treat for her: My mom is an incredible person with whom I have a great relationship. I feel the exact same way about my dad, but my guess is that I got my interest in playing on the internet from my mom. Everyone should be lucky enough to have parents like mine. I truly believe that everything that is good about me is due to my parents. Everything bad is because I didn't pay enough attention.

Busy, Busy, Busy

Okay, I'm not that busy, but next Wednesday I'll be interviewing with the Texas Association of School Boards for a Research Analyst position and on Friday I'm going to see Barack Obama wow me with his oratory.

Okay Blogger

Not only do I have a new format for my blog, I have also switched to the New Blogger. The format change was my choice. Blogger wouldn't let me log in without changing to the fancy new thing.

Hooray! National Signing Day! Hooray!

Okay, maybe it's not that exciting, but football season is over and it's a sad and lonely several months of the year known as the offseason.

Texas has it's usual great class. It should be exciting to watch these kids develop as players.

On another note, I rule. I have won a Burnt Orange Nation t-shirt for my prognosticating during the regular season. If you like college sports and you don't read Burnt Orange Nation regularly, then you are really missing out.

It's just football

I like to read many of the political blogs. I think they are sometimes interesting, sometimes inane, mostly inane. I don't understand this attempt to politicize the Super Bowl. Don't cheer for the Colts because Peyton Manning gave money to Bush. Don't cheer for the Colts because Tony Dungy is speaking at an anti-gay event. What about Tank Johnson and Ricky Manning for the Bears? How can you cheer for them?

I think supporting Bush or an anti-gay agenda are clearly wrong things to do. I also think hoarding undocumented weapons and beating innocent people are not good things to do either. In fact, I think cheering for a team in a football game based on political rationale is stupid. It's a game. If you don't care about either of the teams, simply go to NFL.com and do the bandwagon test. Or, do what I do and support the team that has the most players from your University of choice. The Bears have Cedric Benson and Nathan Vasher, so I will cheer for them. They also happen to be my bandwagon team.

Another reasonable way to determine who to cheer for is to guess who Vince Young would cheer for and then to cheer for that team.

I love the Cincinatti Bengals

They're like a much more exciting version of the Super Bowl Ravens. I guess that's something Marvin Lewis brought with him. How many players were arrested this season? Was it eight or nine? Chad Johnson is only being questioned in connection with a shooting. He hasn't been charged with anything and nobody knows why he was questioned. He always seemed like the nice, flamboyant wide receiver. Or maybe SI just told me that as many times as they could. I hope he didn't do anything wrong and everything works out and the case gets solved and I end this run-on sentence.
